Marvel at Zona Arqueológica de Cholula, an archaeological site dating back to the Classic period. Standing 55 m (180 ft) above the surrounding land, the construction represents the largest pyramid in the whole of the Americas and was built in several stages between the 3rd century BCE and the 9th century CE. Largely abandoned when the city of Cholula suffered a drop in population, the pyramid was covered in foliage when the Spanish arrived. In 1594, colonialists built a church on top--a major Catholic pilgrimage destination that still stands today. Zona Arqueológica de Cholula is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , custom trip planner Edition.

  • When in Cholula, stop and visit the pyramids. Interesting place to visit . Great place to take pictures. Make sure you have sturdy shoes and sun screen as the sun could be unforgiving.

  • Wonderful history. The tunnels weren't open due to the pandemic but it was an experience seeing the pyramid and an even greater experience trekking all the way up to the church at the top of the hill! Phew! Wear your walking shoes and light clothing for sure! My husband did push our 2 year old all the way up in her stroller (bless his heart) so it'd definitely doable, just pace yourself and bring water.
  • Overall I liked it. The hike up is pretty challenging but worth it. You don't see much pyramid but you do. Enjoyed our day trip here. Lots of vendors and shops. A rustic place in my opinion but had a good time.
