Explore the massive, elaborate structure of Basilica de Santa Maria de Guadalupe, the central place of worship for the country's patron saint. Located on the spot where the Virgin of Guadalupe allegedly appeared in the 16th century, this structure remains one of Catholicism's major pilgrimage sites, known for housing the cloak of Saint Juan Diego. Erected in the 1970s, the circular church can hold up to 10,000 worshippers and boasts 15,000 niches in its main crypt. The shrine also houses a famous image of the Virgin, considered one of the most important religious depictions in Mexico. Right next to this landmark you can also visit an older church from the 18th century, known for its impressive facade and marble statues. • Being there was at first very tedious because there are a lot of people, and they don't let you pass, also the visit time is very short, it's only 10 minutes to see what was on display, outside it...

  • This is the one place I really wanted to visit in CDMX. The grounds are so clean. The climb to the top of Tepeyac hill was easy with the stairs and ramps and the view of the city from the top was quite nice. The gardens are lovely with sculptures, waterfalls, grass and flowers. You are able to see the image a bit closer in the Basilica entering at the rear of the church. There are doors at the back or you can walk around to the back if you enter at the front. Once at the right place in the back, you hop on a slow moving sidewalk that takes you right in front of Our Lady of Guadalupe's image. Since it is hung rather high, you aren't at eye level. I understand the reason but I was still hoping to see it closer. There are masses going on all the time in the Basilica so be respectful upon entering.
  • One of the most touching experience to visit basilica of our lady of Guadalupe. This is a sacred place for catholic but highly recommend other community or religion to visit once if u were in Mexico City. Beautiful place, you can spend hours and enjoy amazing churches (old&new), chapel, museum, religious outlet,gardens..❤️❤️ loved the place . The image of virgin Guadalupe located at new church, there a short escalator for admiring the image of lady of Guadalupe. The architecture really impressive.it is open everyday from 10 am to 6:30 pm. Very beautiful place to visit if traveling to Mexico City, highly recommended. 👍❤️
