Completed in 1598, Cathedral de Merida is one of the oldest in the Americas. Built on the site of a former Mayan temple, using some of the old stones from the ruins, the solemn building features an austere interior, most of its decorations destroyed in the Mexican Revolution. Inside, you can view a tall birchwood crucifix and a painting of Tutul Xiu, an indigenous chief who converted to Christianity and whose descendants still inhabit the area. • It's such an amazing architecture historical beauty, it's just unbelievable you can appreciate it from any angel if you're at the main plaza. I have a bit more attachment to this amazing building due to the fact that we share the same name Ildefonso can you believe it.
  • The area next to the church is a sound chamber that has an amazing feeling when standing inside. Totally unexpected
