The tropical paradise of Playa Norte occupies a scenic spot on an island once considered the sanctuary of Mayan goddess Ix Chel. Shaded by tall palm trees, the soft white sand provides enough space for playing sports or hosting a party, while the turquoise sea remains as calm as a lake. Snorkel or swim in the inviting shallow water, which teems with fish and other colorful marine creatures. Beach bars provide refreshments and rent out lounge chairs, umbrellas, and towels. Several larger eateries along the water will give you access to changing facilities with any purchase of food and drink. This place sucks. The water is clear and beautiful, the people are rude and ready to take advantage of you. It’s just a tacky beach.

Playa Norte was a very beautiful beach with plenty of places to eat or drink. My son, his cousin and I rented a golf cart from one of a number places where they could be rented. We traveled to the southern tip of the island to see the Mayan ruins. There was small charge of $2.00 USD or 30 pesos. The scenery was outstanding. There were several different trails that could taken, some leading down to the water. Plenty of opportunities for some excellent photos. A very interesting and enjoyable trip!!

Most gorgeous beach we've ever visited -- crystal clear blue waters and an expansive beach -- plenty of room for everyone. You can walk 100 feet out and still stand up and see your feet. Just amazing. This picture is the view from the ferry on our way over to Playa Norte. Gorgeous.
