Schloss Schleissheim, Oberschleissheim

Composed of three places set in an expansive, Baroque park, Schloss Schleissheim served as a summer residence for the Bavarian rulers of the House of Wittelsbach. The Old Palace was built as a Renaissance country house and hermitage by William V in 1598. You can still see the original central gate and clock tower, along with exhibits on religious culture and the history of Prussia. The New Palace is an important example of German Baroque architecture, with many resonant halls and galleries retaining their original late Baroque decoration, mostly focused on the German victory over the Turks. Lastly, the smaller Lustheim Palace is a 17th-century Italian-style garden villa built for Maximilian II Emanuel and his first wife, Austrian princess Maria Antonia. Lying on a circular island in the Baroque court garden, the villa contains 18th-century frescoes, as well as an extensive collection of Meissen porcelain.
