The largest Pre-Romanesque building in Croatia, Church of St. Donat--with its strict circular shape--has been proclaimed a highly original creation of the era. Built in the 9th century, this church has pieces and parcels of an ancient Roman forum built directly into it. See the Roman pillars inside and climb the narrow, dark stairs to the second level. Observe the simple shapes, decorated with an occasional ornament from the forum to produce something that's been celebrated for over a millennium. Due to its odd attractiveness and exceptional acoustics, the site regularly hosts music festivals and performances. Part of our tour was to go thru the old Roman Ruins and also saw this old church. It was very interesting to see how people lived among the ruins.

The history, unfortunately, is not displayed in the building itself, however you can learn about it in the Archaeological Museum across the forum. You must use your imagination to see the wonder...

Beautiful old church in the centre of Old Town Zadar. It is located next to the Roman Forum. It is possible to go up the tower for 20 Kuna and have a spectacular view over the bay and Zadar itself. The church may be a little bit crowded during sunny days but it is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in classical architecture.

A must visit place while in Zadar. Beautiful ruins/old church in the old town of Zadar. The place is nice to visit and take pictures. At sunset, the view is really nice. There are shops and restaurants nearby. It’s a walking distance from the old town entrance. Visit this place many times while is Zadar. It’s nearby the port too.
