Now the stuff of diving folklore, Hilma Hooker is often considered one of the best shipwreck dives in the Caribbean. The vessel sank in 1984 after a vast amount of marijuana was found onboard. Now the 70 m (229.6 ft) vessel lies on a sand flat between two coral reef systems commonly known as Angel City. In clear deep blue waters, circle the perimeter of this dramatic wreck then swim in for a closer look alongside shoals of tarpon and parrotfish. With depths varying from 20 m (65.6 ft) to 35 m (114.8 ft), the wreck has spots for both beginner and more advanced divers to explore. Put Hilma Hooker at the forefront of your travel plans using our Belnem road trip planner.

  • Part of Bonaire's diving history, Hilma Hooker is well within recreational depth. No part of this artificial reef is deeper than 100' You can see most of the wreck at the 60'-70' depth. Interesting...

  • Everything in the other reviews are right. Its a wreck dive, easy to see yada yada...but if you are working within your Recreational limits and not deep certified it may not be worth your time...

  • Beautiful wreck dive spot. A very populair place. Many divers go there by boat, but also accessible via the coast. If you choose the latter options don't go in barefoot: it is very rocky and there are many sea urchins hidden. It is located around 30 meters under water, you can go around and see big tarpons mostly.
  • A great dive site ranging from 60 feet to 100 feet - but to hit 100 fit you really need to be touching the bottom. Last time I was there I hit 96 feet but some people reported 103 feet. We dove the site starting at 60' and went to around 100 and on our way back dove around a large area of corals at around 20 feet.. it was a pleasant safety stop and overall a great dive.
