Ferry Building Marketplace, San Francisco

4.5
Located inside a landmark building designed by architect A. Page Brown in the Beaux Arts style, Ferry Building Marketplace takes up the entire ground floor, the former baggage handling area of a ferry terminal. At its completion in 1898, this building was the largest project ever undertaken in the city. Today, the marketplace attracts foodies from around the country with its small shops selling everything from expensive mushrooms and sourdough bread to award-winning wines, cheeses, and chocolate cupcakes. The plaza just outside the building hosts local farmers and merchants selling organic produce grown in the area, as well as fast foods like burgers, pizzas, and tacos. Don't miss a stop at one of the marketplace restaurants, serving fresh seafood dishes and signature cocktails. • It is a must in San Francisco, it is a beautiful old building full of food restaurants and shops where you can take a walk and sit by the ocean.  more »
  • Interesting shops with some high-quality food items, not the usual tourist trap shops. Some very good lunch restaurants with outdoor seating facing the water. The concrete plaza between the restaurant...  more »

  • Always enjoy coming here especially on Saturdays during the farmers market. There are enough dining and tasting options to keep the finickiest palates happy. Location is great, along with view. Of course it's pricey but all things considered a win.
  • Are you a tourist? Do you love wine? Do you love local cheeses? Do you love good food? Do you like local and unique items? If you answered yes to any of these, then you should definately stop here. This place has a little of everything. Fresh breads, cheeses, honey, wine, gourmet chocolates, gourmet local produce, and great sit down eating spots. Please note, once you enter this building be prepared to stay a while..., there is lots to see and taste. If you want to get away from all the souvenir shops and have a REAL San Francisco taste experience without going deep in the city to multiple places, this place has a lot of what you may be looking for under one roof. Close to cruise ship dock and worth the walk while exploring the pier areas.
