Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
On the 4th (Sat), steep yourself in history at Porta della Carta, snap pictures at Ponte dei Sospiri, then pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica di San Marco, then explore the activities along Canal Grande, and finally take in the views from Ponte di Rialto. Keep things going the next day: make a trip to St. Mark's Square.
