Few destinations in Mexico dazzle visitors quite like Cancun, a modern resort town filled with glitzy hotels sitting on picturesque and well-developed Caribbean beaches.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Dolphin & Whale Watching and Shark Diving. Get some historical perspective at Punta Sur and Parroquia de Cristo Resucitado. Step out of Cancun with an excursion to National Reef Park of Puerto Morelos in Puerto Morelos--about 44 minutes away. There's still lots to do: scramble along the landscape with a canyoning and rapelling tour and race across the water with a speed boat tour.

Zurich, Switzerland to Cancun is an approximately 13-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of train, shuttle, and flight. Traveling from Zurich to Cancun, you'll gain 6 hours due to the time zone difference. Yucatan's busy capital, Merida remains a mid-sized urban center offering an impressive list of cultural activities, eclectic nightlife, and a chance to see tropical examples of French and Italian architecture.
Visit Uxmal and Palacio del Gobernador (Governor's Palace) for their historical value. Step off the beaten path and head to El Atrio del Convento de Izamal and Dzibilchaltún. Step out of Merida to go to Izamal and see Big Mercado, which is approximately 1h 15 min away. And it doesn't end there: take in the spiritual surroundings of Merida Cathedral, admire the striking features of Paseo de Montejo, explore the ancient world of Mayapan Mayan Ruins, and see the interesting displays at Gran Museo del Mundo Maya.

Fly from Cancun to Merida in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a shuttle. While traveling from Cancun, expect a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Merida, ranging from highs of 41°C to lows of 27°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Thu) early enough to drive to Chichen Itza.

Start off your visit on the 5th (Fri): Head underground at Cenote Hubiku and then Head underground at Cenote Zaci. Traveling by car from Merida to Chichen Itza takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle; or take a bus. In July in Chichen Itza, expect temperatures between 39°C during the day and 30°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Tulum.
