Mexico City

— 7 nights

City of Palaces

Breathtakingly large, Mexico City provides a home for almost 9 million people living in nearly 1,700 distinct neighborhoods.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Mexico City: Rosary Chapel (Capilla del Rosario) (in Puebla) and San Juan Teotihuacan (Piramide de la Serpiente Emplumada & Zona Arqueológica de Teotihuacan Estacionamiento Puerta 5). And it doesn't end there: take an in-depth tour of Museo Nacional de Antropologia, browse the exhibits of Museo del Templo Mayor, contemplate the long history of Basilica de Santa Maria de Guadalupe, and appreciate the extensive heritage of Zocalo.

To find photos, more things to do, maps, and other tourist information, go to the Mexico City online day trip planner.

The Route module shows you all the different ways you can get to Mexico City. November in Mexico City sees daily highs of 26°C and lows of 11°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Sat) so you can travel to Palenque.

Palenque

— 6 nights
Palenque remains best known for the nearby ruins of an ancient Mayan city, which probably flourished around the 7th century CE. The World Heritage-listed remnants of this settlement seem little changed by the passage of time and represent one of Mexico's finest examples of Mayan architecture.
Step out of Palenque with an excursion to Tonina in Ocosingo--about 2 hours away. There's still lots to do: explore the ancient world of Zona Arqueologica de Palenque, admire the sheer force of Cascada de Roberto Barrios, examine the collection at Museo Del Textil, and pause for some serene contemplation at Iglesia Santo Domingo.

For ratings, other places to visit, photos, and tourist information, go to the Palenque road trip planning app.

You can fly from Mexico City to Palenque in 3.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 15th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel back home.
