Phutuq K'usi, Aguas Calientes

#3 of 10 in Nature in Sacred Valley
Scale Phutuq K'usi to traverse a recently discovered Incan trail and view the far side of Machu Picchu. The trail starts with a wire climb up the side of the mountain. As you continue on, ladders are available for climbing, though some areas still require the use of upper body strength to go further. These aspects make the trail difficult for anyone not in good physical shape, but if you are determined and able enough, you can reach the summit. Those who have climbed it before suggest bringing grip gloves and good hiking shoes. Put Phutuq K'usi at the forefront of your travel plans using our Machu Picchu trip maker tool .

  • I was hoping there was some way to climb up this mountain but I hiked as high as I could and found the ladder has been replaced by a single metal pole! The views along the way up were pretty though.  more »
  • For many years I dreamed of visiting this mysterious place. It was worth the hardships and hardships of a long road. In Machu Picchu you can walk and enjoy the views endlessly. The energy of this place is amazing.

  • I tried to hike this trail in February 2018, and the ladders have been taken down. It is currently being redone so don't try this trail until they officially re-open it.
  • This trek is very nice. We were the only one who were trekking there. Unfortunately there is no ladder anymore for what reason we had to stop at the rock wall. But the walk until this was beautiful. You can snap some really nice shots there!
