Admire a fine private collection of Mexican folk art, and learn about the passion of the couple who collected it, at Casa de los Venados, the art gallery and home of American couple John and Dorianne Venator. Having bought the house in ruins, the couple spent 10 years remodeling it and filling it with over 3,000 items of Mexican folk art. Colorful skulls, antique furniture, and vibrant paintings dominate each room, bringing together different artistic styles and influences from across the country. Take a tour of the house, still home to the Venators, and learn about the history of the project. To visit Casa de los Venados and other attractions in Valladolid, use our Valladolid trip planner.

  • Casa de los Venados ---- AMAZING home! If you love Mexican Folk Art - this home / Museum is definitely worth the trip.while visiting Valladolid. It's a Must See!! A beautiful display of lovingly collected Mexican folk art. Tours daily @ 10am are free but a $5 donation top support the local community is suggested -The guides Miguel and David were friendly and very informative. Check out the dining room -- beautiful hand painted chairs of famous Mexicans.
  • Fantastic place and must see in Valladolid. The price of admission of 100 pesos is given to local charities. This incredible house belongs to American expats who are avid art collectors. The house itself is amazing and there is more art than you can possibly see in one visit. Our guide was wonderful and spoke fluent English. He gave us lots of information and answered all our questions. Do not miss a visit to this incredible house/.museum.
