Zocalo, Taxco

#2 of 20 in Things to do in Taxco
Landmark · Tourist Spot
Watch the world pass by as you sip coffee in the city’s main plaza, known as Zocalo. On the north side sits Casa Borda, the most important non-religious building in the city. The house is now used for teaching and other activities. The rest of the plaza is surrounded by restaurants, bars, and silver shops. Cobbled streets lead off from the plaza, with the street of Cuauhtemoc containing many of the area’s best restaurants and bars. Del Arco street heads towards the popular shopping and market area. This spot provides a good place to embrace the relaxed culture of the local Mexican culture. Add Zocalo and other attractions to your Taxco trip itinerary using our Taxco travel planning tool.

  • Very pleasantly surprised by Taxco after not going there for many years! Beautiful town with wonderful people, colonial architecture, paths, nooks and hidden places Will be going back soon.  more »
  • This is a lively and colorful plaza. I felt very safe, and I had lunch by myself at a restaurant that overlooked the square.  more »
  • Old Mexico. Cobble stone streets. The Spanish Church dominates the night sky. Plant of nice hotels around the church plaza..
  • Taxco is one of the most beautiful places I have seen in Mexico, and the Zocalo is a beautiful part of the town. There are cafes and bars, lots of silver jewelry shops of the best quality and a. Amazing cathedral.
