Admire the grand scale and ornate design of Santa Prisca de Taxco, a place of worship that stands as a testament to the historic wealth of the mining town during the 18th century. Built between 1751 and 1758, the cathedral's stone exterior has a pink hue and reflects a bold, but detailed baroque style. The opulent cathedral was built under the command of Jose de la Borda, a Catalan mine owner, and one of the richest men in the region. The exhorbitant expense of the building project, however, nearly bankrupted him. Once the tallest building in the country, the cathedral's interior showcases nine floor-to-ceiling, gold-covered altarpieces, as well as paintings by Miguel Cabrera. In the right city of Taxco this wonderful work is the main point of local historical heritage
Taxco is a magnificent colonial town by any means. Really worth it to spend a couple of days there!! There are tons of shops selling silver jewelry, and many places end unique hand made pieces. Prices are good. The church itself is made from light pink rock: really beautiful.
We absolutely loved this town. Such a great colonial city. The Church was beautiful but the scenic views of this city is what sets it apart from any city in Mexico.
