Learn the history of the nation at Amparo Museum (Museo Amparo), a cultural institution with a vast collection of artifacts and artworks. Located across two colonial-era buildings in the town's historic center, the museum traces the country's development through displays dating from 2500 BCE to the modern era. Admire sculptures, altars, and figures, handmade by artisans from each of the country's pre-Columbian civilizations, including Aztecs, Mayans, Totonacs, and Teotihuacans. The museum displays many of its colonial-era pieces in situ, across the rooms of the period houses. Don't miss the formidable Mexican modern art collection. • The museum has one of the best collections of pre-Hispanic art, plus the curatorship is splendid. The spaces are very pleasant, especially the terrace that has a wonderful view of the domes of several churches and the Cathedral, and where you can also order a coffee or a very cool Gin and Tonic! The shop is very nice because it has very good quality crafts! I miss the Estoril restaurant which was exquisite!

  • A small museum, with a diversity of important pieces from various regions of the Republic. Many videos with explanations of the different pre-Hispanic activities. Very interesting!! We lacked time to see everything. I hope to return

  • Great exibits and well preserve artifact to look at. The atmosphere of museum is very comforting and you feel safe. There are many staff members to help you find your way around and to answer any questions you may have. I highly recommend checking out this museum.
  • Amazing museum. Great exhibition of precolonial art on the ground floor, very interesting contemporary arts on the second floor, and a great view from the top floor. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Note that almost all signs are in Spanish, so you may want to grab an audio guide.
