Based in the historic center of the city, Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico draws the attention of architecture enthusiasts. The building features the first "Chicago" techique, mixing iron and concrete, used in the area. Look for the attraction's facade to observe neoclassical architecture; the rest of the building's exterior features neocolonial architecture to match the appearance of the Zocalo, the main plaza. Inside the building, admire Art Nouveau decor and an original stained-glass ceiling, deisgned to represent railroads and modern life. Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico Reviews
Lovely old hotel from the days of grand hotels. The interior is lush and the ceiling is mind-boggling in its extravagance. Well worth a visit. more »

This was my favorite hotel until they failed to inform me there would be a wedding with a loud dance party in the lobby that wouldn't end until 3am. The shaking of the furniture from the vibrations of the sound made it impossible to sleep. We have a vacation bedtime of 10pm to start sight seeing at 9am the next day. Our first 3 nights were lovely. They upgraded our room at the start of our stay and mentioned this was because there would be an event during our stay. Unfortunately the upgrade moved us closer to the noise and likely opened up our more economical room for the wedding party. Sneaky and dishonest! They did not say it was a nighttime event that would rob us of sleep and ruin the next 24 hours of our vacation as we attempted to function without a night of sleep. If we had been fairly warned the event would make noise all night long we would have checked out before the wedding and moved to our Airbnb a night earlier. The event was loud when it started around 8pm. I naively thought they would end around midnight. Instead the sound got louder after we went to bed at 10pm with shaking vibrations from 12-3 am. No earplugs were offered until I requested them in my pajamas and bed head amongst the sequined wedding guests at 2:45 AM. I was offered a free breakfast I wouldn't be awake for after the sleepless night. The sound turned down @ 3 AM and the room stopped shaking, but the event continued all night and remained audible. Badly done. Transparency about the event would have saved a day of my vacation I can't get back.
A grand French Department Store from the XIX Century transformed into a beautiful town Hotel. The lobby is one of the most Beautiful in the city. It's Grand Dome and iron elevators are in great condition and preservation. The hotel is nice, not top of the line as it could be, but it's worth it. Restaurant on the terrace with excellent views. Definitely the best hotel to lodge if you're longing to stay at the heart of this magnificent city.
