Witness centuries of opulence at Museo Casa Montejo, a historical mansion in Merida's old town. Before its conversion to a museum in 2010, the 16th-century building was for generations a residence of the Montejo family, Spanish conquerors of the Yucatan Peninsula. Admire the well-preserved facade, ornately decorated with reliefs portraying conquistadors and members of the powerful family. Explore the interior, which houses period furniture and decorations in Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Rococo, and Victorian styles. It's free. If you see a line, it's for using the ATMs. (Most of the building is converted to a bank now). Just go in and check your bags. The guards were super sweet and helpful. Great museum in center of Merida, across main square and park. If you love hispano architecture and style its place for you. You can see many different rooms with antiques and all is for free! Must visit in Merida!
