Construction began in 1921 and took some 91 years to complete--just in time for a visit from Pope Benedict XVI. Displaying a richly decorative Gothic Revival aesthetic, the large cathedral dominates the surrounding area, with the plaza at its front serving as a popular meeting place for locals and visitors. The interior features an atmospheric crypt with seven catacombs, and an impressive marble altar.     Stunning church building from 1900's this architectural master piece is worth the visit. Just the front door is considered one of the biggest bronze pices world wide. And the building is one of the most beautiful in the world.

    A very rare and special example of Neogothic architecture in the middle of Mexico, where barroque, neoclassic and roman style temples are much more common. It's interiors are quite astounding and gorgeous, full of crossed type archs and exquisite stained glass art all over the place. The huge gothic rosette in the façade it's even comparable with Paris' own famous Notre Dame.
