Isla Brewing Company, Isla Mujeres

Jeff & Rhett McGahee have shared a love for Mexico and it's people from the day they met in 2002. Whenever time and finances allowed, the two would venture south to enjoy the vibrant culture. In 2010, the duo landed on the shores of Isla Mujeres with their 10 month old daughter in tow. The McGahees had always dreamed of a life in Mexico, and upon experiencing the sense of family and community that is Isla Mujeres, they knew that Isla was destined to be their home.

Meanwhile back at home. . . Asheville, in the mountains of Western North Carolina, was experiencing an explosion of microbreweries and brewpubs, earning the tiltle of Beer City USA for several years. Like many Ashevillians, Jeff had long since been brewing beer at home, and the extensive community of beer enthusiasts provided the perfect environment for him to hone his craft.

So . . . in the Summer of 2013, The McGahees liqidated their world in Asheville and made the leap into to their next big adventure. . .

  • Best brewery on the island! Stop in for some free samples of their drafts, then take a few bottles with you! Don't forget to return them to get a discount on your souvenirs. They have a nice selection of high quality shirts. Unfortunately they only had a select few of their beers on draft, so I will just have to make another visit in the future.
  • As previously mentioned it might be the only place on the island (or greater area?) to get anything else than mexican lager. Great beers, great staff and bonus points for the discount when returning empty bottles.
