Trip Planner: Mexico / Yucatan Peninsula / Quintana Roo / Cozumel / San Gervasio Mayan Archaeological Site
Follow in the footsteps of Mayan women, who were expected to make the pilgrimage to San Gervasio Mayan Archaeological Site at least once in their lifetime. An ancient reminder of the once-mighty Mayan civilization, the spiritual site was dedicated to the worship of a feminine god, Ix Chel, hence its importance to Mayan women. Consider taking a guided tour to fully appreciate the site's epic history, although information boards in English mean self-guided exploration can still prove rewarding. Look out for the site's resident iguanas, who like to bask in the sun. Bring your camera and sunscreen, and consider arriving early before it gets busy. We stopped here one day to see the local Mayan Ruins when we had rented a car. We did not use a tour guide as we wanted to be on our own time frame. Most of the ruins had descriptor plaques, which... more »
It’s a very cool place the only reason I gave it 4 stars was because the main entrance is covered with people trying to sell you stuff and they are nonstop. You literally have to run through the main corridor to not be bothered. Besides that it is definitely worth seeing.
This place was amazing!! We went when they first opened at 9 a.m. (supposed to be 830am to 345pm). There are two fee's to pay and a third if you want a guided tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. He was able to answer all my questions. This is one of the larger ruins on the island.
