Lascaux II, Montignac

3.7
#2 of 38 in Museums in Dordogne
Cave · Art Museum
Lascaux II features replicas of the famed Lascaux Cave's 17,000-year-old Paleolithic paintings, which are only 200 m (650 ft) away. Discovered in 1940 and opened to the public in 1948, the original cave attracted 1,200 visitors a day. By 1955, carbon dioxide and light had begun to damage the paintings. In 1963, the cave was shut down to preserve the art. The museum opened in 1983. Look for a replica of the cave's Great Hall of Bulls and the Painted Gallery. • Great site but need more language translations
  • Site is perfect. BUT NOT COVID19 SAFE. Stay AWAY IF YOU HAVE OR LOVED ONES HAVE underlying conditions, elderlies... Group sizes are too large, i think it was 20ish people in the cave, more than 30min stayed such a small contained area. The group size should be no more than 8 to be covid19 safe.
