Kirkjubour Cathedral, Kirkjubour

Hike up the hill to Kirkjubour Cathedral, reputedly the largest medieval building on the islands. The 1300 church lacks a roof, which is nothing new: in fact, the building was never completed. Still, poking around here will reveal lots of details about ancient architecture and construction. Pause to take in the views of the rest of the island, as well as other smaller islands nearby. • Not much of building left to look around, but village very interesting, especially museum, and newer church. Able to walk from Torshavn (2 hours), or no.6 bus, free from outside tourist office  more »

  • Definitely worth a visit! Went with a guide and he provided some wonderful background for the site.
  • Lovely cathedral. Boats hanging from the ceiling. Doors at the end of each pew plus the distinctive balcony stood out for me.
