#16 of 30 in Historic Sites in Luxor
Ruin · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Located in the Valley of the Kings, Tomb of Merenptah serves as the resting place of 19th-dynasty Pharaoh Merenptah. Son of Ramses II and Queen Isis-Nofret, Merneptah was buried in a chamber originally secured by four enormous door jambs. As you walk down the 160 m (524 ft) corridor towards the famed sarcophagus--discovered by Howard Carter in 1903--notice the detailed images of Isis and Nephthys along the walls.
