Monument · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
The tallest obelisk in Egypt, Obelisk of Thutmoses I sits with the historic ruins of Karnak. Dedicated to the third pharaoh of the 18th dynasty, this obelisk stands at 29.5 m (97 ft) tall and represents 320 tons of solid Aswan granite. Explore the ruins to view the story of the site's construction. Legend claims that Thutmose I's daughter Hashtepsut ordered that the obelisk's creation, transportation, and be completed in seven months (no one knows if that's true, however).
