Trip Planner: South America / Colombia / San Andres and Providencia Department / San Andres Island / San Andres / Morgan's Cave
The legend of hidden treasure lures tourists to Morgan's Cave, allegedly the site of pirate Henry Morgan's buried bounty. Some 120 m (400 ft) deep, the cave can only be viewed from its mouth, but remains a part of nearly every tour of San Andres Island. A replica of the cave and Morgan's boat help bring the legend to life, while staff performs the traditional mento dance. Hear stories of the Caribbean's pirate past, while getting a look at modern island culture. We entered, and it was like entering the ghost train of our childhood, dark place, with things carefully lit to impress, with a hidden person appearing suddenly with a horrible cry, etc etc.
El lugar lo muestra una familia, que lo arregla tipo museo, no quedamos seguros de la actividad del pirata en la zona. more »The place is shown by a family, who fix it museum type, we are not sure of the pirate's activity in the area.
This is where you find the original Morgan's Cove, where, according to the tales, the pirate would have hidden part of his treasures. Around it was built some mock-ups of boats and pirate stuff, while dressed people tell a some tales. Unfortunately, the place looks completely abandoned and the tour sounds a lot like a waste of time. As a big fan of pirates fiction and books, this attraction could be so much better in so many aspects. Even the cave itself is pretty as it is, but the land owners tried to stick some ugly statues and kind of destroy the original visuals. :-/ Sad. Please save this place! It needs some re-design and respect for the historical landmark.
