Trip Planner: South America / Colombia / Bolivar Department / Cartagena District / Cartagena / Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas
Wander the mighty fortifications of Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, which played a crucial role in protecting gold shipped back to Spain by conquistadors in the New World. Originally completed in 1536 and expanded twice in the 17th and 18th centuries, the complex system of bunkers, batteries, and parapets represents one of the most formidable accomplishments in the history of Spanish military architecture. Walk the walls, explore the maze-like network of tunnels that links the different parts of the fort, and enjoy panoramic views from its highest point. You'll find little written information throughout the castle, so rent an audio guide if you want to learn about its history. Gran fortaleza conservada para el turismo. El recorrido lleva unos 30-40 minutos. Debes cuidarte del sol. Los baños son impecables. Las cuevas estan bastante bien mantenidos. Very interesting tour. We did the tour with panamericana tour and Chaves tour guide helped us a lot with all the explanations more »
Non Colombians - $25000 Colombians -$20000 Student discount is only for Colombian students Accepted credit cards Lots of ppl selling water before it. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have some before going up. Not too hard of a walk. Good views from the top. Good picture points. They have bathrooms in there but we did not use so unsure if clean or free.
Great place to go with the family. Is mind blowing to see the small spaces they would sleep in back in the day. I highly recommend for anyone to go and learn about the history of El Castillo de San Felipe.
