Walk through pre-Columbian history at Museo Nacional de Colombia, which occupies 104 cells of a former prison designed by English architect Thomas Reed. This 19th-century prison, turned into a museum in 1948, features a collection of over 20,000 items, including works of indigenous and Afro-Colombian artists. To get some insight into prison life, visit room 16 on the third floor, and don't miss the nearly 1,500-years-old Muisca mummies on the ground floor. English-language placards on each floor provide background information on the exhibited items. Don't forget to check out the gardens and the glass pavilion cafe. We had the privilege of visiting the Museo Nacional de Colombia earlier today, and what a gorgeous museum it was! The building the museum is housed in is historical, and the exhibits are well laid out with plenty of interesting information. While not all the descriptions are available in English, many were bilingual. Make sure to give yourself ample time, as the museum is three floors. With regular entry fees hovering around $1.00USD, it's a great - and budget-friendly - way to spend an afternoon (and a refuge from the hustle and bustle of downtown Bogota).

Is a nice place if you want to know about Colombian history and art. If you get there, is around one hour and a half or more to visit all places.
