Casa Museo Quinta de Bolivar, Bogota

4.5
#5 of 40 in Museums in Bogota
Revisit the final years of El Libertador, the former president of Bolivia at Casa Museo Quinta de Bolivar, a colonial house tucked away in the lush foothills of the Monserrate Mountain. Erected in the 17th century, the house became Simon Bolivar's summer residence in 1820, eventually serving as a brewery, school, and hospital after the celebrated general's death. Step inside to explore several rooms filled with original furniture, decorative items, and personal pieces, including Bolivar's writing desk, sword, and uniform. Other highlights include portraits of Bolivar's lover Manuela Saenz, as well as original tableware and weapons, displayed in rooms once used to entertain guests and to celebrate the general's military triumphs. Casa Museo Quinta de Bolivar is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Bogota Edition.

  • Go, it a beautiful property on your walk back down from Monserrate. The garden and house was beautiful. It was a nice maybe hour to spend.
  • Surprised to see that El Libertador had quite a European taste for the era, not to mention great choice of place for the house, nice garden and perfect dining room with French China. Being from Europe, we have learnt something new on the history of Grand Colombia.
