Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino Reviews
Great collection in a comfortable space with lots of informative maps to help as well. Descriptions are in Spanish and with thorough summaries in English. Don't miss the textiles room that you may... more »
This is a really cool museum to visit. I spent some 90 minutes there and found it to be enjoyable and interesting. Well worth checking out more »
While most exhibits have more information in Spanish than English, there is still a decent level of information available in English next to the exhibits. The museum broadly covers Chile, and surrounding regions, before 1500. It is well curated, with different rooms representing different regions and periods of time. The ground floor has temporary exhibitions. As of December 2019 this was a display by Sheila Hicks, whose work with fibres was inspired by precolombian weaving techniques. The museum has clean bathrooms, lifts between floors, a cafe and gift shop. Entry is 7000 pesos (~£7/$10) for adults and half price for students.
Overall the quality of this museum is excellent, well maintained and efficiently run. Definitely worth the visit! However, the fact that we, as foreigners, have to pay x7 times more is ridiculous, especially when, like stated before, the explanations are not translated fully. Also I waited a good 20 minutes at the café without getting served while others who arrived after me were. Not cool!
